How tragic is the current legal market in the UK? Many reports are indicating that the legal market is picking up and will get better over a few years. But with the recent demise of Halliwells, whereby many of the selected trainees were left without contracts, what really is the reality on the ground?

In your opinion will the situation improve in a few years? I am starting my legal degree in September 2010, and am set to graduate in 2013. I'm worried with the current competition, which has left new graduates without jobs, the competition for TC will get even more fierce. And while it is too early to predict, do you think the situation will get better in time, esp for those graduates looking to start their training contracts in 2014?
what do the trends predict?
also how are the international candidates being viewed? I am a commonwealth citizen, and while i know that magic circle firms recruit heavily on an international level, in these tough economic times, how are the candidates being viewed?

A former law firm partner who accused his firm of acting unlawfully by making him retire at 65 has lost his age discrimination case in the Court of Appeal.

Leslie Seldon, now 69, a former civil litigation partner at Kent law firm Clarkson Wright Jakes (CWJ), had signed a contract with the firm that included a clause saying he should retire aged 65.

However, Seldon argued that the UK’s default retirement age of 65 applied to employees only, not to equity partners. He claimed that the firm had discriminated against him by contractually obliging him to retire at 65.

the reason do Fashions in Clothes Change

Fashion in clothes change for almost as many different reasons as there are fashions. The main causes are changes in the type of work we do, the cost and availability of materials used and the invention of new materials such as synthetic fibers.
The attitude of different societies towards the body and how to display it is also important. For example, if a girl in the Middle Ages had been a mini-skirt that would have been regarded as insane or evil, social norms change from one era to another from one country to another.
There have been dramatic changes in fashion in this century, due in part to the availability of new and cheap rnaterials and partly because this generation believes that clothes should be a matter of personal choice, and ILS ILS comfortable and well attractive.
Many of the clothes of our ancestors fussy, often require yards and yards of fabric, would be too expensive to produce today. It would also be inappropriate to imagine modern life cycling in a crinoline.
Major wars often influence fashion. During World War II-style women's clothing became military. Jackets, for example, had padded shoulders square. After the war, this trend has changed voluminous, feminist, new face of Dior, the great French designer.
Another major change occurred after the First World War. Women who had worked for the first time with men in the factories during the war began to dress more freely and began to wear short skirts.
Today, what we wear is largely a matter of personal choice, comfort and what they can afford.

I have a client who paid off their mortgage in 1996, however the bank kept re- insuring the property for the last 14 years. One year the insurance premium was £675, they are now looking for the £7000 for the insurances plus interest from him. Ive searched case law on bailli lexis and westlaw and cant come up with anything on excessive home insurance charged by banks. Any one have any ideas? Client never agreed and it seems ther bank has taken the roll over contract approach as he didnt advise them to stop insuring the property. He's an elderly man with a drink problem. Comparable insurance quotes show he coulda got insurance for about £150 per year. Asked the bank to reconsider and was hoping to negotiate the figure by at least a half but seems they are holding firm. All I can think of is defending it on the basis of unconscionable bargain but any help would be much appreciated?
