Default Help - finished LPC but no training contract!

Hey guys - this is my first post

I've just finished the LPC having graduated with a 2:1 law degree but have no training contract despite sending out many applications! I've sent off lots of paralegal applications but everywhere seems to want experience. Have sorted out work experience over summer for around 3 months at a smaller firm in Manchester - was just wondering if anyone out there was in a similar position and what sort of work would be best to get to strengthen my CV - do you need experience for all paralegal jobs?

Thanks

I'm sick of the sight of these identikit topics - have a look through virtually every topic on this forum and you'll find your question has already been asked, and answered, countless times.

Matt - how can we answer what you need to strengthen your CV if you haven't even told us what area of law you want to get into? Plus I agree with Mr X - there is a whole wealth of advice and knowledge contained within previous postings on this forum, and it gets a bit frustrating seeing the same 'lazy' general questions being asked.

if Mr X and the other dude are so sick of these questions I suggest they refrain from answering them.

I pity the poor bastards who have to work with MrX - He is such an antagonistic **** Never got a good word to say about anyone or anything. If your sick of the posts why don't you do us all a favour and sling your hook!!

Welcome to the site Matt. I did some voluntary work at a local court and I also did a mini-pupillage. Shortly after this I managed to get a Paralegal position. It is good that you have arranged some work experience.

Good luck for the future

Lots of people work as costs negotiators in firms, as a way of getting a foot in the door to getting a training contract. I know that there are a few firms in Manchester that recruit in-house this way (Horwich Farrelly, Beachcroft) This way you can get negotiation, advocacy, drafting, litigation experience, etc.

Or you can get a few months working as a costs negotiator in a specialist costs firm, then move on.

It's very rare just to fall into a training contract straight after doing your LPC, even if you do have a 2:1.

You obviously have a nasty attitude and a huge chip on your shoulder - which is probably the reason you were let go before....lol

I notice from other posts that I'm not the only one who thinks you are an a pathetic little loser!!

I applied for paralegal positions and got one - they didn't mind that I didn't have experience. Prior to that I had a year working one day a week at a firm and a 6 week vacation placement at a sole practitioner.

Stay focused - you will have to send out loads of applications to even get one interview!
