Help with the law career please!

Hi All,

I'm currently 20 years old and started doing an A Level Law in college back when I was 17. Because of certain circumstances I left college and went into employment but now I want to go back and start again at the A Level, I have a full time jobs at the moment and don't want to leave it. I've been looking at the National Extension College. They do the A Level Law which I have to learn myself at home. I really want to beable to get into the Law business world but to be honest i'm pretty clueless on where I should start?

I would really appreciate if anybody would be able to help me out please.

A Level Law isn't actually a good idea as many universities and firms don't like it, not really sure why. You'd be better off with a law degree, alternatively some further education colleges offer diplomas in legal skills.

As pointed out by MrX, some universities (case in point, LSE) don't like A-level Law as it's perceived as a 'soft subject', but it's fine with many other universities and it may help you find out if you would like to study the subject further. Perhaps pick Law as one of your subjects but make sure the other two are solid, traditional old-fashion A-level subjects, and try your best to do really well at them as law firms care about your A-level results for some bizarre reason (so if you do badly you'll have to do really really well at uni to make up for it). Alternatively, have you considered a law degree with the Open University? You could do it without taking any A-levels at all so it might save you time if you were planning to do the A-levels and your degree part-time. I know people who've studied law with the OU and enjoyed it; you could start by taking a foundation course in law with them to see how you get on.
