i know what you mean about not having a lot to put on your application. i graduated from warwick last year and am now doing the LPC at Nottingham and am very supprised by the age range of those on the course. there are very very few people who have come straight out of university and those that have have taken gap years and spent time working in the legal world. it is these same people who have the best training contracts. would definately advise anyine to take a gap year, it will give you so much more to talk about in your applications and interviews.
on a side note the most important thing to concentrate on is getting that 2.1. as a person who got a 2.2 i have to say that it will be a million times harder to get a training contract with a 2.2 sign stuck around your neck ( i got one as a result of sill being able to put "2.1 expected" in the grade box before i graduated)
warwick offers lots of pro bono work and Warwick Volunteers is also very big, recruiters like these sorts of things
good luck man and remember, no matter how boring Moffat, Chan and Watts get in Trusts don't start skipping lectures
