Talking EXAMPLE COVER LETTER

i'm still getting a few PMs looking for this. SO here's my one, I don't need it any longer and I'm happy to share.

This is for a medium-sized regional firm, but there are subsitute paragraphs for small firms. I used it as template for various small and medium sized West-End and regionals as this was the profile I was aiming for. There's no mention of my skills, as I put these in a separate paragraph in my CV, after work experience and before interests.

Dear Ms. X,

I am an LPC graduate of ABC Law School, currently working in-house with XXXXX. I have seen the vacancy for a trainee solicitor to commence September 2008 advertised on LawCareers.Net, and I would like to convey my interest in joining the firm and to present myself as a candidate for the position.

I have a corporate background, with Distinctions in Litigation and Business Law and Practice at LPC [ladies and gentlemen strongest subject(s) only, please note no mention of my Pass in property!!], as well as taking electives Corporate Finance and E-Commerce. I work in the Corporate Legal Department of XXXX Limited in a paralegal role with the Employment and Commercial teams. However, I am anxious to broaden my experience into the areas of Property and Litigation, as I view these skills to be essential for a solicitor. LAW FIRM's Commercial Property and Litigation departments share an excellent reputation, which leads me to believe that the training I would receive in these areas would be second to none.

LAW FIRM interests me very much for two reasons. [Firstly, its impressive growth attracts me as a potential employee. LAW FIRM's graduation from high street firm to large regional practice in a short space of time implies that it possesses some very dedicated teams who can perform a wide range of work to the highest standard. This also means that each team member makes an important contribution to every task, and to the growth of the business as a whole, making work both personally and professionally rewarding.]/[Firstly, its small size attracts me as a potential employee. I have found that working in small but dedicated teams on a range of work which varies greatly means that it is always engaging and fast-paced. This also means that each team member has increased responsibility and makes an important contribution to every task.] Secondly, I am very impressed by LAW FIRM's emphasis on the provision of personal, quality service to business clients, extending in range from corporate commercial to specialist IHT and estate planning services. In my current role as a provider of legal services, I can attest to the importance of this quality in building and maintaining professional relationships. If I were to be employed as a trainee, I would hope during and upon qualification to contribute to LAW FIRM's continuing success.

[I should be very grateful if you would contact me in the event of any candidates being selected for interview]/[I should be very grateful if you would contact me in the event of any candidates being selected for interview whether or not I have been successful, as I have a significant interest in the outcome of this application]

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

(by email)
