Default Police Station Accreditation - Going on the rota

I am a trainee doing a criminal law focused training contract. I qualify in July 2009. I am doing the police station accreditation and am due to become accredited in a couple of months. My firm wants to put me on the 'own client' rota. It would mean being on duty one weeknight in 7 and one weekend in 7. I am based in the South West. They want to pay a fixed amount each month. How much should I be asking for?

A fixed amount for being on the rota as opposed to overtime for time spent working OOH?

Yes they want to pay a fixed amount each month instead of overtime for OOH work done. I realise that some months I will win and others I will lose but a rough idea of an amount would be great.

Perhaps it would help if I outline what I get.

Upon acceditation I got a £1k payrise along with the following OOH package:

3.5 hours time off in lieu for each OOH case midweek
£125 for each weekend case.

As a rough figure (working on 3 weekend and 3 midweek cases per month) they would need to have given me just under £6000 payrise to match that.

Just one more thing. Now that fixed fees have come in how much does your firm get for each police station matter?

I am actually based in central London, I registered the account while at Uni.

My firm gets paid in the region of £270-£300 (ex VAT) for each fixed fee.

bnoc that sounds like a really great package. I'd be jumping at the chance to go on the rota if that is what was on offer! Any body else out there want to share this info with me?

OP, that sounds like a bad deal to me.

Manchester firm, we are paid in the following way:-

Each night you're on the rota per month = £13
All fixed fees from out of hours cases are split in two, half goes to firm, other half goes into a pot. Reps put their hours in every month, and an hourly rate is worked out based on the size of the pot.

This means there's an incentive for us to be as efficient as possible to earn more fixed fees = bigger pot = higher hourly rate.

We put in our hours for travel and attendance at same rate and since the new scheme in Jan have been paid on average £35 / 40 per hour.

Last month I earnt an extra £1000 for about 25 hours ot.

Thank you spaz.

Sounds like things are a lot busier up there in Manchester. How much is the fixed fee?
