Default Wait for the chance or look to move on?

Hi

I am currently employed in the in house dept of a large company. I have been working there for 16 months and was unsuccessful in last years round of TC applications.

Now, for some reason or another the company is not employing any new trainees this year but will be looking to early next year. I have been told that "I will be considered" and my line manager will back my application as he says that "I am ready".

I am now torn between losing the experience and knowledge that I have gained in this company by moving on (if I am lucky enough to get a TC elsewhere of course) or for staying and hoping I am lucky here next year (no guarantee). I enjoy it where I am but time is an issue for me.

Problem is I am getting impatient. I have a 2:2 so am not guaranteed anything and am 27 so no longer a spring chicken.

Any views on my situation would be appreciated.

I personally think you should stick with it, especially if next year your line manager is willing to give you a good reference besides if you dont get it you would still have 2yrs+ experience at a large firm which for a person with a 2.2 can be indispensable.

Make other applications to other firms in the meantime and don't move for anything other than a training contract at a firm you like a lot, that's what I would do

As long as you are happy where you are there isn't much point moving to another paralegal job and starting from the bottom again.

You are in a good position and just because you choose to stay doesn't mean that you shouldn't apply elsewhere

Thanks for your replies. I will certainly heed your advice and stay put, it would be stupid of me to start another paralegal job somewhere else and be at the bottom again.

I will apply for TC's in the meantime. I wonder if I have a job offer in the pipeline could I use this to ask my current company what my chances are for a TC next year, I would rather stay than commence a TC at a firm that I am not interested in.
