Please give an example of an experience you have had working
help?
While at Sainsbury’s, my team and I worked at the “Food to Go” Department where we were all delegated different tasks. Sales targets were set each month and we had to be commercially aware as to devise creative ways of not only merely achieving them but surpassing them and optimising profitability while maintaining the highest levels of food quality and customer service. A major problem arose when for two straight months sales in our department were below expectations for that time of the year and our department was running the risk of being shut down. Our team were determined that this would never happen. We participated in a series of meetings where we brainstormed ways we could improve sales. This meant we had to communicate effectively between individuals as to state ideas and questions clearly, listen to others attentively and resolve disagreements in a non-confrontational manner. We analysed charts dictating which products were most popular/least commercially popular and agreed to increase the number of ‘popular’ products and decrease the number of ‘unpopular’ products we were making each day. I suggested that we use food samples so customers try the product before they buy it. I argued that customers were reluctant to buy new products because they had no idea what it tasted like and would be unwilling to ‘gamble’. During the next few weeks we implemented these new ideas and began using samples and right away we noticed that sales immediately improved. We reached our sales target for that month. This experience showed me the effect of proactively spotting new opportunities, as a team, and of moving quickly in order to exploit them. Moreover, I appreciated the great impact on a team’s performance of gaining others’ respect by sharing knowledge and experience, rather than “bossing them around”.

Challenge - can you say the following sentence without taking a breath?
Sales targets were set each month and we had to be commercially aware as to devise creative ways of not only merely achieving them but surpassing them and optimising profitability while maintaining the highest levels of food quality and customer service.
