Default 1st TC Interview- Roythornes- HELP!!!!

Hello Everyone,

Was just wondering if anyone has had any interviews with a firm called Roythornes. I have my first TC interview with them and am concerned about a couple of things:

1) They website says I will be involved in a written task. I am worried as this is my first TC interview ever. What can I expect from their written task??

2) I have no experience in Agricultural law and that seems to be their specialism. Would I need to have detailed knowledge of Agrcultural law for a 1st interview????

I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has had any experience with them.

It depends primarily on what stage in your studying you are at. I have not heard of the firm you are applying to; I did, however, have a written exercise in my TC interview. This basically consisted of a number of legal qus, ranging from undergrad/LLB stuff (eg formalities for a contract) to advanced LPC stuff (eg What is CPR r35?)

It is impossible to say what they will ask you, but I will imagine what they ask will depend on what stage you are at.

In terms of agricultural law, it is hard to know how much they will ask you on this. IMO this is quite a speciaised area of the law, and is something that I certainly learnt very little about on the GDL/LPC, so it would seem a little unfair to expect you to know much. I would research what kind of agricultural work in particular they do, and brush up on the basics of this (eg do they come at the work from a commercial or private client perspective?)

As I say, almost impossible to know what they will ask, just make sure you are confident in your interview skills/question writing etc.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Northern Rock for your response. I am definitely more worried about the written task now. I finished my LPC last year and I have looked over my notes relating to areas they specialise in but I am still concerned about what to expect and how much more studying I need to do.

This has been helpful though. A lot of people have just said it should not be technical as its a first interview but your experience leads me to believe, it might be harder than I expect....

I would appreciate it if you could give me some examples of the qustions you were asked on the written task...

what area is the job in? ie criminal/civil
use that as a starting point to narrow down your research.

No firm will ever expect a trainee to know everything.

Don't make up crap on the spot if you don't know the answer. A firm wants to also see how u deal with hard situations, and if u try to just make something up (and chances are they are going to know the correct answer) they will think that your just a chancer. You'd be better off saying something like "to be honest I'm not too sure about that at this minute, I will def make it as a point of research..." or something along those lines

Thanks Mandymkrd...

I intend to do detailed research into the areas of law that they specialise in. Do you think competency questions are asked in first interviews??? Am sorry if am asking alot of questions. Its just that this is my very first tc interview ever and the last time I went for any type of interview was 3yrs ago. So I am super worried on what to expect.

Any further advice would be very much appreciated.....

Hi LeBouf,

I'm guessing you've had your interview now, but let me know if you still need advice as I have been through the process with Roythornes and might be able to help.

It certainly is not the easiest training contract interview process, so if you have got through the 1st stage you have definitely done well!!
