I am attending an assessment day at DWF a week today. I got told that it will involve lunch, group work, a presentation and fhl business games.
Can anyone shed some light on these activities? Also, I see from other threads that people are preparing presentations. Should I be doing this or have you been given a set question?
I am attending next week too. I have no idea what the presentation will entail, just it will be 3 questions, choose 1. The topics are not disclosed until the day. I suggest you just gen up on all things legal, political and economical - which obviously have some baring on the legal market.
Get the Times on Sunday and catch up on what's been happening in the business world, and read the lawyer.
I don't think they are expecting miracles, after all we only have 20 mins prep time. I am assuming they are looking for presentation skills, i.e. engaging the audience, timing, coherency and the ability to close the presentation well.
I am just going to try to enjoy the day as much as possible and get the most out of the experience.
Good Luck
Oh... Sumo, any ideas on what the questions may be on?? I am thinking Ossetia? or the credit crunch?? just guessing really.
When I did this last year the questions were quite clever (I thought anyway).
One was on interest rates, and how a rise may lead to more work for a firm like DWF (testing your knowledge of how the economy works etc.)
Another was on a large company moving to the North, and what opportunities that presented for DWF (testing how well you know what work DWF does, where it is strongest and maybe even some local knowledge of the North)
The final one (the one I did) was on legal services reform and how tescos law would affect a firm like DWF. The answer being not a lot.
I've already had mine, and the topics mentioned have changed. You need to think about oil, social corporate responsibility and networking as a means to develop the legal business.
I am just waiting on the call now...( fingers crossed) or the dreaded rejection...
The morning was hard, but enjoyable. They are looking for good academics, yes. But, they are looking at what else you can bring to the table, ie Commercial Awareness, a personality and extra curriculam stuff... Just be yourself and you will be fine.
