Default LPC Australia

Hi all,

I currently hold an LLM in International Commercial Law from the UK but my LLB is from abroad. As a result, I am required to do GDL as my LLB is not considered as a qualifying degree. Ever since graduation (Jan 09) I have been doing voluntary services with two high street firms and I now find my self working in the Prison department of another small firm. I have always wanted to practice in a big corporate firm and I believe I have the mental capacity to do so.

Given the cost and time involved for me to be able to qualify within the UK, I am considering going to Australia for 6 months to do the Australian LPC. My concern is, when I do get back here, will I be able to take the QLTT? What about my chances of getting a job eventually when my LPC is from abroad?

Please I will need your opinion on this.
Thank you all for your time.

Are you a qualified Australian solicitor once you've taken the LPC in Oz? If not, then you'd have to fully qualify in Australia first, before you're allowed to take the LPC in England.

Full info on the QLTT rules are available here: Solicitors Regulation Authority - Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test

Check with the SRA as you may only need to take parts of the GDL.

Admin, after the course, you are then sworn as a solicitor. So upon coming back here, I will be a qualified solicitor in Autralia.
Mr X, thank you for your advice.
