Is anyone starting the external LLB programme offered by the University of London this year?

I have started the course this year, will be doing it for three full years. Kind of a vague question that was! But what are you thinking about?

Hello Luke and IanScott

I have been accepted to start this year though I have not registered yet. I?m still considering whether I can commit the necessary time this project. I am going to do 3 years graduate route as my job is fairly hectic.

I just put this question out here to see if anyone was in a similar position and perhaps for future support. What are your backgrounds, do you already work in the legal field? This is a complete new direction for me.

George

Hi all,
How are you all studying? Entirely on your own? A F2F course? Online?
I'm not doing it this year, but I'm seriously considering for a next fall start.
Chris

Hi Chris,

I am studying with a teaching institution in London - Kensington College of Business. The staff are excellent and available and if you are willing to apply yourself I think you can do well with them.

Bear in mind this is not an easy course, the percentage that graduate with a 2:1 and a 1 is very low - though bear in mind that the number of people studying also do not have English as a first language, and the number who go it alone is high and that these statistics may be more negative than your realistic position.

Simply due to the sheer workload, I would recommend, where possible, to get your feet wet with a teaching place. That way you can get some real feedback on your work and your critical writing, and question spotting.

Get yourself ready for a challenge and you will do well. Bear in mind that even according to the university of London, it would be "remarkable" to get through each module with less than 250 hours of independent study. You have 4 modules to do in a year, so do the math. It is a significant workload but for me the challenge it presents is the drive that pushes me forward.

I wish you and George the best of luck, keep me informed how you progress.

George, my muay thai instructor recently gave me this line and I am not sure where it came from but it applies to you...

If you really want to do something, you'll find the time.
If you really WANT something, you'll find the money.

I don't have the time, and I don't have money are common excuses that hide away your fears of doing something you probably SHOULD do. It might be an even more hectic 3 years, but consider where you might be in 6 years if you do this course, or if you blow it off and stay at work? You obviously are not happy where you are, or you would not be exploring new opportunities.

Any questions feel free to ask, I'll do my best to help.

-Luke

Hi Luke,

Paschal here; you mentioned Kensington College of Business and that piqued my interest because I am looking for an LLB teaching institution that has staff available to offer critique and advice regularly to its external students.

And this brings me to my questions - are you located in the London or are you located outside of the U. K.? I am looking for a teaching institution that will offer distance learning via a Virtual /Online Learning Environment - does Kensington offer this?

Thanks Luke.

Paschal.

Hm. Kensington is useful if you are in the country and studying there. For overseas you may want to consider london law tutors. they have a website, just google.

I have couple pals doing it and they say it's rather tough. Guess everyone is different though and it depends a lot on self-motivation. I've read it is as difficult as Oxbridge but it has a great rep so will be worth the slog
