We are a small, very informal niche firm doing predominantly publically funded mental health and capacity work. We are seeking to recruit a paralegal to start in autumn 2018.
A key requirement for the job is an aptitude for advocacy, at all levels. The person will also need to possess the capacity to take on client advice and advocacy work within a short period. Previous experience of social care related advocacy would be an advantage; alternatively, candidates need to be able to demonstrate clear potential to quickly develop a confident grasp of the relevant law and guidance.
The role may also involve a certain amount of outreach work; making contact with relevant organisations and developing client networks and potentially giving short talks/ presentations to small groups.
The position would suit either a BVC or LPC graduate (or possibly other relevant qualifications), and in the case of an LPC graduate would hopefully lead to a training contract within 6 months (where all or some of the pre-contract experience would count against the latter).
The firm has a wealth of experience in mental health and social care related fields and is able to provide good training and support and a reasonable life/work balance.
The position also requires typing skills (as limited admin support available) and a sense of initiative. The starting salary would be based on the London Living Wage and this would be reviewed at regular intervals.
